What a View

Okay, so maybe I overdid it a little, but it was just way too beautiful this past Sunday to stay indoors, so I decided to go exploring Great Falls Park. What started out as solely the intention for a cool photo op, turned into some major exercise and I ended up hiking over 6 miles...

The Falls

The sky was soooo blue...

One misplaced step and I could literally die out here. It was about at this point I turned around and went the other direction.

The Aqueduct Dam which marks the border between Great Falls Park and River Bend Park.

So quite an adventure for me who, as most of you know, is usually pretty sedentary. So even though I'm paying for it now (and probably will be all week - thank God for Advil) I am proud of myself.

And in unrelated news, for those of you who haven't checked the Homestarrunner site lately, they have a new Halloween toon up, and although the cartoon itself isn't really that funny, for anyone who loves Home Movies (previously seen on Adult Swim on Comedy Central) I hope you will join me in falling off the chair laughing when you see Bubs dressed up as Coach McGuirk this year.

Does It Ever End?

Windshield replaced - check.

Refinancing of house completed - check.

Going backwards in career; moving to prior job - che....wha?

Okay, so it's not like I'm going backwards really, basically I have put my real job on hold, and have now become the 'supervisor' of my old job. Basically, overseeing two people who don't do one job half as well as I used to. To further put into perspective, there are now 3 people: 1 Analyst II (me) and 2 Analyst I's - doing an Analyst I job. WTF???

SOAPBOX ALERT!

What has happened with the average office worker these days? There is absolutely no accountability, no pride in workmanship, and I can say with certainty that the phrase "work ethic" is now extinct.

Why is it that in a department of about 40 people, only about 8 people actually care about and perform their job exceptionally? How is it that the other 32 can sit on their asses and collect a paycheck for work they don't do (that the other 8 people end up doing IN ADDITION TO their own jobs) and NOT be held accountable for it? Why bother getting everyone laptops, when 32 people don't even use them at work, let alone at home? Why do they continue to hire people for a FINANCE department who have NO experience with Excel???

All I can say is, the sh*t is going to hit the fan, and it's going to be soon. I can only take comfort in the fact that I will be one of the 8 left standing.
