Finding Nemo
HA - Again, probably going to be sued by Disney...
For those of you who care, I got my baby Nemo yesterday. He started out in Durham at 7:30 and traveled all the way to Ashland just a few miles past King's Dominion where I picked him up. He was an extremely good traveler - he slept all the way home.
However, when he got home, he wouldn't get out of his carrier. He wasn't aggressive and hissing or swatting at me, just didn't want to get out. So I ended up falling asleep on the floor next to his carrier. 2 hours later, I started to get worried and did what I always do...call mom. She and Joe decided to come over for moral support, and like a light switch being turned on, as soon as I hung up the phone, Nemo stood up and came out of his carrier and started headbutting my hand and demanding to be petted. I almost cried. So I scooped him up and gave him a quick tour of the place, showing him the litter box twice just in case. He is such a sweetheart, though - all he ever seems to want is to be loved. We settled on the couch where he fell asleep using one of my hands as a pillow while I had to keep petting him with the other.
When mom and Joe showed up, he didn't get scared or run or anything when I went to get the door, stayed exactly where he was on the couch and waited for me to come back. He immediately took to mom and Joe too, making them pet him as much as I did. Then he went for a nap under the papasan chair (his favorite spot). So mom assured me I was doing everything just fine and to quit worrying.
He still hadn't eaten or used the litter box by then. So Matt came over and was totally an angel. He got down on the floor and Nemo went straight for him (traitor!) and just loved him to death. Then Matt got up and moved closer to the kitchen, got back down on the floor and Nemo went straight to him again. Between the two of us, we got him to follow us into the kitchen and he finally ate something! Matt said, however, "You know, Nemo, I'm not going to be here every day..." So one problem down, one to go.
After a couple hours, Matt had to go home, and then Nemo got back up and started exploring again - and around 10 finally used the litter box. Whew! And as of yet, has not had an accident! Hopefully, I won't have to ever clean up puddles on the carpet. His other favorite place is under my bed, which I think he likes better than the living room, although I'm not sure why.
So he seems to be doing great, except I have yet to see him drink anything - foster mom said to try mixing water or Pedialyte into his wet food to make sure he's getting enough moisture. I have to keep reminding myself he's only been here for a day - it's bound to take some time for him to settle in completely, and I'm probably over-worrying about everything. But that's typical of me.

Drum roll....
And his name is going to be Nemo.
I wish I could post a picture of him here, but I'm just not technologically advanced enough to grab the picture off the website and make it work for posting. So you will have to wait until I get him home this Saturday and start taking pictures of my own.
In the meantime, I printed out a couple of his pictures and tacked them on my bulletin board at work, so I'm sure the executives are going to start making fun of me pretty soon...

The Naming of the Cat...
So I have almost officially adopted my cat from the Siamese Rescue... He needs to finish up some medical work before he can be released to me, so I will probably be driving towards North Carolina to get him this Saturday. He's an adorable flame point Siamese who was born without a tail...as the Siamese rescue people call it, he has a "bunny tush." And yes, pathetically, I did think about naming him Thumper, but luckily came to my senses. I don't like the name the rescue people gave him, so I'm turning it over to my bestest friends to see what you think. I have narrowed the possibilities to:
Kiefer (don't know why, just like the name)
Nemo (because a. my mom got him a fleece blanket with Nemo from Finding Nemo, b. he doesn't have a tail, which is kinda similar to Nemo having his 'special fin', and c. he's a flame point - orange and white - just like Nemo!
Rory (because according to my name book, it's an Irish name that means "Red King")
So what do you think? Click on 'comments' and let me know!

Stamp of Approval
I have been approved by Siamese Rescue to adopt a cat! And my home loan went through on Monday! Quite the turnaround from a couple of weeks ago.
So I've been looking on the website for my potential kitty, but I have my heart set on a flame point, so I have to wait until there's more available. We are heading toward the "busy season" though so hopefully I will find one soon.
I have now officially lost 25 pounds now! I just love that whenever I log onto the Weight Watchers site that I see a little green "25" star next to my progress! If all goes well, I will be able to celebrate my 10% goal this weekend!
